We walked around all day with Wendy yesterday. Poor Nick got sick on his birthday. When we came back to the hotel in the early evening, he passed out and we stayed in the hotel room all night. I ordered room service, so that was cool. :D
Well, I think he's feeling a little better today. We did not get to say goodbye to Wendy. :( I hope she has a fun time with her relatives during the rest of her vacation!
We walked to a different area to shop today, and it was so cool. We got some really neat looking hoodie jackets. We're also going to hit Madame Tussaud's today finally. We've been looking at it since we've been here (it's right across from our hotel), but we've been doing other stuff.
This is a long vacation. I'm not complaining, but it's going to be pretty hard to adjust back to normal life. :|

Our day in Groningen
We had fun with cousin Katie! She is a cute little thing, and she fits right in with the Dutch people. :D
We had to ride the train. It usually takes about 2 1/2 hours to get to Groningen from here, but we missed a place where we were supposed to switch trains. It's hard when they make all the announcements in Dutch. It's even harder when they don't make the announcement. :| We wound up in Leeuwarden when we had to switch trains to get back on the right track. Katie was waiting for us at the train station with her cute little bike. We walked a lot. :D

Stranded
Nick and I were stranded last night! We went to visit Katie in Groningen, and the last train to Centraal station left at 10:04 pm. We just missed that train, but Katie said that we could take a different train to Amersfoort and find a train home there.
We were on the train for over an hour, got off in Amersfoort...The next train to Amsterdam was at 4:50 in the morning. :| It was after midnight, and everything was closed, including the bathrooms.
When we went to look at a map, we found another girl who had been stranded on her way to Amsterdam. I think we were probably about 45km away. Together we went to the taxi line, and everyone laughed when they heard we needed to go to Amsterdam. The first guy wanted to charge 100 euros, but someone else offered to drive us for 90. Expensive, especially when you already have a (train) ticket to get you there, but we didn't really feel like trying to sleep at the train station.
We got back to our hotel around 2 in the morning.
We had an awesome time with Katie. I love Groningen, and I think we will stay someplace more like that if we ever return to the Netherlands. Beautiful and not as crowded and seedy as Amsterdam. They even have their own red light district (2!) out there. Katie cooked us dinner (noodles with shrimp and vegetables), and she baked a Dutch apple pie for Nick (it was sooo tasty!). We walked around the market in town, and we went to a crazy hat party. It was a good time.
Nick is 30 today!!

Tired...
We bought a 24 hour iamsterdam card today. It let us into several places free of charge, and we could also ride all transit (buses, trams, etc).
We hit the NEMO Science Center first. It was pretty neat. It would be a fun place to take kids if you had any. Next we went to the Heineken Experience. That was pretty neat. It was mostly good because we got two free beers on our tour.
We stopped to eat some lunch/dinner at a little cafe. All three of us had hamburgers. Mine was the special, which had goat cheese on it. Nom.
Then we went to the Foam Photography Museum. It was pretty cool. All in all, I think I've decided that sight seeing is over rated. I'm glad we did stuff today. It's fun to take the trams and buses. The only other places I wanted to visit were the Van Gogh Museum and the Dutch Resistance Museum. It would still be cool to see those places, but I also don't care as much now that all the places I've been have been kind of 'meh' in the end.
I took some pictures, but I haven't even been up to my room yet. There are cameras watching us in this office room and that kind of gives me the creepies. :|

Canals
Yesterday was Sarah & Blair's last day. We woke up early and went on a canal ride. It was only an hour long, but that was actually the perfect amount of time for us. It was great!
The rest of the day was spent looking at gift shops & coffeeshopping. Sarah & Blair had left, and it was Karen's last day. We called it a night pretty early, and Karen took off early this morning.
It's a really small group right now - just Nick, me, and Wendy. I am thinking that we'll try out the tram system today. There are still a lot of places I want to go. I need to get ahold of my cousin too. She is coming back here or we're going to visit her or something.
